When you're cold, hungry and tired, you're far less capable against the giant foes. When you're well-fed and well-rested, you have more stamina and durability. Each of these things impacts your overall stats. In game terms, this means that you need to manage your exhaustion, hunger and temperature levels. The land of the gods is a giant frozen hellscape that's not meant for human survival, so you need to find ways to survive the trek between your targets. It draws from survival games and Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Praey deviates from its obvious inspiration in between the skirmishes. This is also part of the "expansion pack" feeling it feels very much like it expects you to have played its spiritual predecessor. Without that expectation, it's easy to imagine someone finding the controls to be frustrating or awkward. SotC fans will have a head start because while some of the buttons are different, the core "feel" of movement is very similar. I don't want to call them bad, but they require a fair amount of effort to learn. Unfortunately, that also includes the somewhat awkward and very ponderous controls. Few other games have captured the feel of Shadow of the Colossus as well as this. Yes, it feels familiar, but that's a good thing. I really like the designs and how incredibly epic it feels to fight one. Know that the gods trend toward far more inhuman looks than the Shadow of the Colossus creatures, and even one of the earliest is a giant wormlike creature that pelts the area with deadly blasts as you struggle to approach it. Each one is distinctive and interesting, and I'm loathe to spoil them for those who have avoided spoilers. They are large epic encounters that task you with figuring out how to mount and kill something roughly 50 times your size - and that's at the small end. However, the developers managed to create a specific tune for the game and unique style that is similar to its predecessor released more than a decade ago.The fights against the gods are the high point of Praey. Combined with the atmosphere of the world, this means strictly limited visibility. The graphics of PC, PS4 and XONE’s version of the game, created by using Unity Engine 5, are mediocre. In comparison to Shadow of the Colossus, the gameplay was enriched with modern solutions like survival features and crafting system that allows creating useful weapons from items found during the journey. Fighting them requires not only creativity and perception that allows finding weak points of the colossuses, but frequently a dangerous climbing on the bodies of the monsters as well. Similarly as in the original title that was released on PlayStation 2, the base of the gameplay in Prey for the Gods for PC, PS4 and XONE is based on duels with powerful enemies that are many times the size of the protagonist. The hostile environment of the island and the fact that the heroine has nothing but clothes on her back will make the task harder. The only way to restore the balance in the world is by facing them. She learns that the situation is caused by powerful gods which she once worshipped. The player assumes the role of a lone female protagonist who is sent on a dangerous mission of discovering the reason for the endless winter that almost paralyzed the lives of other people. The game takes place on a large island covered with ice, somwhere at the edge of the dying world. The title, developed for PC, PS4 and XONE, is a debut project of a small, three-person team No Matter from San Francisco. It is a spiritual successor to one of cult games released on PlayStation 2, Shadow of the Colossus (2005). Prey for the Gods is a third-person perspective action game with survival features.

Prewriting practices that are useful for students are also often useful for scholarly authors, and braking down large composition tasks is vital when creating sustained texts. Many of these same features make FreeMind productive in other academic contexts, such as scholarship and administration. (Multiuser mind-mapping applications such as MindMeister flourish in this context.) Unfortunately, because FreeMind offers only a single-user environment, its utility in collaborative outlining is limited. In addition to facilitating prewriting, mind maps are also useful visual outlines for parsing large composition tasks into multiple components. FreeMind's interface is nimble and keyboard-based, so it is a minimal obstacle in transferring concepts into a tangible form. Such maps help organize relevant but disconnected material into a coherent structure. Moreover, the creation of mind maps is a very common prewriting practice. It is particularly adept in educational situations because it is platform-independent, so it can accommodate mixed-platform computer labs as well as a broad range of instructor and student personal computers. Academic UsesįreeMind has many features that make it suited to academic environments. It also stores maps natively in an XML format, so data is easily accessed by other applications. pdf formats, or converted into a textual HTML format.įreeMind is available at no cost, and because it is written in Java, it will run on almost any platform that has a Java runtime environment (this includes all modern personal computer operating systems). Maps also may be exported as static images in. Maps may be embedded in web pages through a Java applet or Flash. FreeMind allows visual differentiation of nodes through colored shading and multiple icons. These maps resemble webs of nodes and linkages, and they are commonly used for purposes including brainstorming or clustering, project management, and knowledge organization. FreeMind is mind-mapping software that facilitates the creation of two-dimensional visual models that establish relationships among concepts. Currently, the company is under the leadership of the founder’s grandson, Alex Josefson. For over 57 years, the company has been family-owned, spanning three generations. Spectro got its start back in 1966 and has built up a good reputation in the aftermarket motorcycle lubricant space. It has some flaws but the things this game does well more than cover for those. The turnover will take effect by February 20, 2023, and the deal includes all national and international activities as well as the blending and storage facility operations in Brookfield CT. Mini Motor Racing X might look like yet another cheap arcade racer but is actually a real contender for being one of the best arcade race games I played in a long time. The latter felt like a novelty you would try out sometime but for longer play sessions the “in car” route is the way to go. You can choose to virtually be in the car or to take a look from the “clouds” with a remote in your hand. On top of everything, a VR option is included. It might be fine for a laugh with some friends but don’t expect to play this mode more than a few times. This Rocket League clone feels cheap as opposed to the rest of the well rounded out game. The Bumperball option, on the other hand, is not a winner in my book. Racing against your friends be it next to you on the couch or online is a big plus for this game. The possibility to play with other people is obviously a no brainer when it comes down to improving this game. With the extended career mode alone this game would be worth the price but The Binary Mill decided it was not enough. The addition of the weapons only adds to the mayhem. Because of the small space available on the tracks, the gameplay was already quite frantic. The amount of weapons is limited to 4 which is kind of a let down in an otherwise well beefed out game. When I eventually conquered the normal career mode, I tried the X variant in which you get to use Mario kart like weapons to mix things up. With the addition of the upgrades to your vehicle you can earn, you get the feeling you might just take that previous hurdle on the next try. It has that classic fast-paced challenge and rewards feeling most mobile games thrive on. Mini Motor Racing X is great in career mode. With career mode X added in the mix the number of tracks might add up to over a hundred. Some tracks have a night, day and reversed version but all in all the variation in tracks is extremely impressive. Each difficulty tier has about 36 tracks which add up to a lot of different themes and terrains to race on. As you progress in one tier of the career you will really need these upgrades to keep being competitive and able to unlock the next race. Collecting the cash sporadically loitered over the track and doing well grants you options to buy upgrades. This makes for short but frantic racing experiences with instant gratification when you see the checkered flag. Each lap takes you about 15 seconds which often means one race only takes about 1 minute. I had immediate flashbacks of Micro Machines and Super Off-Road.Įach track presented is short but sweet. With that option picked, you control the car from the air like you would when you race with real RC cars. The Bird’s eye view option had the most impact on gameplay. With a press of the triangle button, I could pick different camera angles which alters the way you control your car. I settled for the hot rod to start my dominion over the RC racing world of Mini Motor Racing X. With a dozen cars to choose from which all have some difference in performance, you’ll surely find one that suits your style. In Career mode, you first choose an RC car. Eventually, I decided to start a normal career to feel out the game without the addition of anything extraordinary. The amount of menuing needed to actually start a race is a bit overwhelming. It’s quite daunting when you first start Mini Motor Racing X. I’m serious, Mini Motor Racing X is filled to the top with content and ways to experience that content. Mini Motor Racing X comes as advertised with a ton of content. Gone are any hints at microtransactions or other dreadful loot boxes that often gets overhauled from the mobile market. They opted to make a whole new game build with the console and more importantly, the console gamer in mind. Let me first start by saying The Binary Mill didn’t just port their mobile game to the Playstation 4. Coming from a successful stint on the mobile market, The Binary Mill pulled out all stops with this version. The Binary Mill decided to make a sequel to Mini Motor Racing from the ground up so it would fit its new home, the Playstation 4, as ideally as possible. Mini Motor Racing X is bigger and bolder than its predecessor.
Under theater-dark conditions, the HD Pico projected an image with a usable size up to between 30 and 36 inches (measured diagonally) larger than that, and the image quickly started to look degraded. For Input Source, you can choose between Digital Input (HDMI) and RCA (composite audio/video), and project content from a compatible device over a cable plugged into the respective port. If you press the OK button when one of the first four choices is highlighted, it will let you choose between Micro (SD) Card and USB (thumb drive), and run content stored on either of these devices. You can navigate between them by using arrow controls on the credit-card-size remote. When you turn the HD Pico on, you first see a Home screen that offers six choices: Videos, Music, Photos, Text, Setting, and Input. A microSD card slot rounds out the picture I'm glad to see that it's actually labeled "SD Card" instead of the outdated (and confusing) TF-card label that AAXA has used on other projectors. A USB type A port lets you attach a USB thumb drive for playing media or text files. An audio-out jack fits headphones or a small, powered speaker. A micro-USB port is for charging the projector. A mini-HDMI port lets you stream content from a DVD player or other video source, while an AV port fits an included composite audio/video cable with three RCA plugs for connecting with a video source. Connectivity and NavigationĪll of the HD Pico's ports and jacks are on the back of the projector, set amid a series of airflow vents. And although I could turn the projector off using the on-off button on the included remote, I couldn't similarly turn it on. I was usually unable to get the button to work with just a finger or thumb, even by pressing down with my fingernail, and needed to use a pen tip or a stylus to turn the unit on and off. Instead of being slightly raised, as with the P2-A, it is flush with the back of the projector. The HD Pico's power button isn't as effective. (Opens in a new window) Read Our InFocus IN1118HD Review A tiny, bendable tripod screws into a hole on the bottom of the projector. Its built-in lithium-ion battery should last up to 150 hours on a charge, according to AAXA, which is more or less in line with what I observed in my testing. It has native 720p (1,280-by-720) "basic HD" resolution, which is high for a low-brightness pico projector more typical is the AAXA P2-A's native resolution of 854 by 480 pixels. It is an LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon) projector with an LED-based light source with a rated brightness of 50 lumens and a claimed lifetime of 20,000 hours, so the lamp should last as long as the projector. The HD Pico is a small white cube with rounded corners. Although it lacks many features found in the P2-A, the HD Pico has good image quality and is suitable for light-duty use in a dark room. With the AAXA HD Pico Projector ($199), the company has created a similar projector with an even smaller form and higher resolution, but lower brightness. When I recently reviewed the AAXA P2-A Smart Pico Projector, I was struck by its small size, but AAXA has outdone itself with its latest offering.
It also can create the Tilt-Shift effect (also known as Lensbaby-like selecting focus effect) within Photoshop, along with a whole lot more. NOTE – be sure to take a look at my article on Topaz Labs new plugin called Lens Effects. Take a look for a real bargain as a used lens □ The creative possibilities alone will help justify the purchase of the lens. Now for the warning – playing with this lens is very addictive! You will start thinking about revisiting old subjects to see them in miniature form. People should have as little detail as possible. Very shiny subjects like cars help to re-enforce the miniature effect.ħ. Miniatures tend to have a very shiny gloss. That is usually a view from above, so run with it.Ħ. Think about looking at a real miniature set. But, be warned – the Canon 7D’s auto setting for the shutter speed has a tendency to over-expose the image.ĥ. Set the shutter speed as needed to compensate. It will help soften details and make the objects look more toy-like. Limited depth of view is a good thing here. The aperture is the easy part – keep it as wide open as possible. You can then adjust it to fit your subject.Ĥ. This will start you with a distorted image. Start with the Tilt set for one large bar to the right and the Shift one bar to the left. You will need to experiment with both the Tilt and the Shift settings. And, with practice, you will even be able to “see” the effect through the view finder, or at least see the hints that will produce a good effect.ģ. You will be able to see the effect on the camera. Use the Live View and review the images on the camera’s LCD screen by zooming in. Make sure you have plenty of time to get the effect right before you start shooting a series of photos for a time lapse video.Ģ. Tips on creating the Miniature Toy Effect with a Tilt-Shift Lensġ. The special effect is very convincing and the resolution of the Canon 7D makes it captivating. Combine the limited depth of field with a wide-open aperture and you create the miniature toy effect in the above image and in the my video Toy Times Square Story. The goal is to reduce the sharpness to a small area of the image. The miniature toy effect is created by distorting the tilt and shift planes of this lens. For best results, you will also need to manually set both the aperture and the shutter speed (auto settings tend to over-expose the image). No auto-focus, but it will give a focus lock during manual focusing. Both Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings have been applied to individual elements to reduce flare and ghosting for improved contrast in strong lighting conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been added to the front and rear elements to guard against dust, moisture, and smudging. The Canon 24mm TS-E L lens creates an amazing effect, but it takes works. Characterized by an expansive field of view that is ideal for photographing tight indoor spaces and complex architectural subjects, this lens also offers flexible perspective and focus control to adjust distortion and depth of field.Ĭomplementing the mechanical layout of the lens is an apt optical design, which includes three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness. Up to 90° of rotation is also possible using the PC Rotation capability, and shift movements do not require locking or unlocking for use. Import your best picture or video to your favorite image editing software (Photoshop, After Effects, Adobe Premiere, etc). Up to +/- 7.5° of tilt is possible, for focus control, and +/- 12mm of shift, to adjust perspective and composition, and tilt can be applied parallel or perpendicular to shift. Featuring an ultra-wide design prized for architectural and interior subjects, the PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED from Nikon allows you to impart both tilt and shift movements to control focus and perspective, as well as apply the movements independently for more creative flexibility. |
